Itinerary

Day 1: Muscat – Barka Fish Market – Wadi Bani Awf – Al Hamra – Nizwa

Depart from Muscat and head to Barka, where you’ll visit the local fish market. Watch as fishermen bring in their daily catch, tuna, kingfish, prawns and more and sell it in a lively, authentic setting.

From here, begin the off-road crossing of Wadi Bani Awf, one of the most dramatic mountain roads in Oman. The route winds through steep cliffs, rocky gorges and remote villages, offering breathtaking views.

Along the way, stop in Al Hamra, one of the best-preserved historical villages in the country. Walk among traditional mud-brick houses and abandoned buildings, experiencing the quiet charm of rural Omani life. Continue to Nizwa, where you’ll spend the night. Overnight in Nizwa.

Day 2: Nizwa – Bahla – Jabreen – Muscat

After breakfast, visit the historic Nizwa Fort, a masterpiece of Omani military architecture, and explore the lively souq, known for handmade silver jewellery and traditional khanjars (curved daggers).

Continue to Bahla for a photo stop at the large clay fort, surrounded by ancient mud walls. This site reflects centuries of settlement and traditional building techniques.

Proceed to Jabreen Castle, considered one of the finest forts in Oman. Built in the 17th century, it features a richly decorated interior with painted ceilings, ornate stucco work and intricately carved wooden grilles.

In the afternoon, return to Muscat.

End of services.
