Itinerary
Day 1: Muscat – Wadi Bani Awf – Misfat – Jabal Shams
From Muscat, depart for Barka before heading into the Hajar Mountains. Begin an off-road journey through Wadi Bani Awf, one of the most dramatic mountain routes in Oman. The road winds through rugged terrain, steep cliffs and remote villages, offering breathtaking views at every turn.
On the other side of the range, visit Misfat Al Abriyeen, a traditional village perched on the mountainside. Stone and mud houses appear to cling to the rock, connected by narrow paths and ancient staircases. Traditional Falaj irrigation channels run through the village, sustaining palm groves and terraced agriculture.
Continue to Jabal Shams, the highest peak in Oman. Arrive in time to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and deep gorges. Overnight in Jabal Shams.
Day 2: Jabal Shams – Al Hamra – Nizwa – Muscat
After breakfast, leave the mountains and stop in Al Hamra, one of the oldest villages in the region, known for its well-preserved mud-brick houses and traditional architecture.
Proceed to Nizwa, the cultural heart of Oman. Visit the historic Nizwa Fort, with its massive cylindrical tower, and explore the lively souq, famous for handmade silver jewellery and traditional khanjars (curved daggers).
In the afternoon, return to Muscat.
End of services.
