Itinerary
Day 1: Muscat, Birkat Al Mauz, Jabal Akhdar
Depart from Muscat and head into the interior of Oman. First stop, Birkat Al Mauz, an ancient oasis surrounded by tranquil gardens and dense date palm groves. Walk along the old Falaj irrigation system, a UNESCO-recognised engineering marvel that has sustained agriculture here for centuries.
Continue to Jabal Akhdar, known as the “Green Mountain”, rising over 2,000 metres in the Hajar range. Explore the terraced fields and traditional stone villages carved into the mountainside. Thanks to its cooler climate, the region produces apricots, peaches, grapes, pomegranates and, in April, rose water, a fragrant local specialty harvested during the brief blooming season.
Arrive at your mountain accommodation in the late afternoon. Overnight in Jabal Akhdar.
Day 2: Jabal Akhdar, Nizwa, Wahiba Sands
After breakfast, descend to Nizwa, the cultural heart of Oman. Visit Nizwa Fort, with its iconic cylindrical tower, then explore the lively souq, renowned for handmade silver jewellery and traditional khanjars, the curved daggers of Oman.
In the afternoon, head to the Wahiba Sands, a vast desert of golden dunes stretching across the eastern region. Enjoy a 4x4 dune drive for a thrilling ride through the sands.
Arrive at the desert camp as the sun sets. Enjoy traditional Omani coffee and dinner under the stars. Overnight in the desert camp.
Day 3: Wahiba Sands, Wadi Bani Khaled, Muscat
After breakfast, depart for Wadi Bani Khaled, a lush oasis surrounded by palm groves and rocky cliffs. The wadi features natural turquoise pools fed by underground springs, ideal for a refreshing swim in a peaceful setting.
Spend time relaxing and enjoying the greenery before beginning the return journey to Muscat.
