Itinerary

Day 1: Muscat – Barka Fish Market – Wadi Bani Awf – Nizwa

Depart from Muscat and head to Barka, where you’ll visit the local fish market. Watch as fishermen bring in their daily catch, tuna, kingfish, prawns and more, and sell it in a lively, authentic setting.

From here, begin the off-road crossing of Wadi Bani Awf, one of the most dramatic mountain routes in Oman. The road winds through rugged terrain, steep cliffs and traditional villages, offering breathtaking views.

Continue to Nizwa, the cultural heart of Oman. Overnight in Nizwa.

Day 2: Nizwa – Al Hamra / Bait Al Safah – Misfat Al Abriyeen – Jabal Shams – Nizwa

After breakfast, set off for Al Hamra, a traditional village known for its well-preserved mud-brick houses. Visit Bait Al Safah, a restored heritage house offering a glimpse into rural Omani life, where women grind flour, prepare remedies, and welcome guests with coffee and dates.

Continue to Misfat Al Abriyeen, a picturesque village perched on the edge of a canyon. Walk through narrow alleys, ancient terraces and stone dwellings built directly into the rock.

Proceed to Jabal Shams, the “Mountain of the Sun” and the highest peak in Oman. Stop at the edge of the “Grand Canyon”, where sheer cliffs plunge into deep gorges, one of the most spectacular views in the country.

Return to Nizwa for the night. Overnight in Nizwa.

Day 3: Nizwa – Bahla – Jabreen – Muscat

After breakfast, visit Nizwa Fort, with its massive 35-metre cylindrical tower, followed by time in the souq, renowned for handmade silver jewellery, khanjars and traditional crafts.

Stop at Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by 12 km of ancient mud walls, a powerful symbol of Omani architectural heritage.

Continue to Jabreen Castle, considered one of the most beautiful forts in Oman. Built in 1675, it features painted ceilings, ornate stucco work and intricately carved wooden grilles.

In the afternoon, return to Muscat.
