Itinerary

Day 1: Muscat

Your journey in Oman begins upon arrival at Muscat Airport, where you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Muscat is a captivating city where modernity and tradition coexist in perfect harmony. The rest of the day is at your leisure; you may choose to relax at the hotel or begin exploring the surroundings.

One of the first highlights is a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an extraordinary example of Islamic architecture. Inside, admire Bohemian crystal chandeliers, handcrafted carpets weighing up to ten tons, white marble columns, and intricate geometric decorations. The calm and respectful atmosphere makes this visit an unforgettable experience. Next, make a stop in front of the Royal Opera House Muscat, a contemporary architectural symbol of Oman. With its golden domes and privileged location overlooking the Indian Ocean, it stands as an elegant and majestic building. Even viewing it from the outside leaves a strong visual impression.

In the evening, stroll through the narrow alleys of the Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest markets on the Arabian Peninsula. Here, you’ll find colourful spices, silver jewellery, local handicrafts, and of course, oud. It’s the perfect place to buy an authentic souvenir or simply immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of a Middle Eastern market.

Nearby lies Muttrah Fort, perched on a promontory overlooking the bay. Its well-preserved walls and massive towers tell centuries of history of past dominations, maritime trade, and battles that shaped the region. Dinner is at your own pace. Overnight at Muscat hotel.

Meals included (-/-/-)

Day 2: Muscat – Free Day & Optional Excursion

After breakfast at the hotel, the day is entirely yours to spend as you wish. We highly recommend taking the opportunity to book an excursion to the Daymaniyat Islands, a true marine paradise located approximately 60 km from Muscat. This scenic archipelago, made up of nine coral islands, is famous for its crystal-clear waters, rich underwater life, and pristine beaches, ideal for snorkelling and diving. The excursion, available as an optional activity to be paid on site, includes boat transfer, a light lunch, and all necessary equipment to explore the underwater world. Here, you may encounter sea turtles, colourful fish, and untouched natural beauty.

Please note that the Daymaniyat Islands are a protected area: collecting shells, coral, or altering the natural environment in any way is strictly prohibited. To secure your participation, we recommend booking in advance. Meals are at your own expense. Overnight at Muscat hotel. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 3: Muscat – Jabal Akhdar

After breakfast, begin your journey eastward along a scenic road leading from Muscat to Jabal Akhdar, one of Oman’s most spectacular natural destinations. The route winds through mountainous landscapes and arid Wadis, offering a taste of the country’s authentic beauty. Along the way, stop at Birkat Al Mauz, a green oasis nestled in a rocky, dry environment. Here, you can walk among date palm groves and visit the ruins of an ancient village surrounded by a traditional irrigation system known as Falaj, a centuries-old hydraulic technique still in use and an integral part of Omani cultural heritage. Continue to Falaj Khatmeen, one of the country’s oldest still-functioning irrigation channels. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this example of hydraulic engineering demonstrates how local communities have learned to thrive in arid conditions, using water to cultivate citrus, dates, and vegetables. You can walk along the channel and observe this ancient practice still alive today.

Arrive at Jabal Akhdar, the so-called “Green Mountain”, a mountainous region rich in cultivated terraces, olive groves, and citrus orchards, nestled between rocky cliffs and offering breath-taking views. Visit the village of Al Ain, where stone houses have been carved directly into the mountain, preserving traditional Omani architecture. Continue to Saiq, famous for its open-air market dedicated to tropical fruits and the local shop where you can taste and purchase artisanal honey. Finally, explore Wadi Bani Habib, a green canyon surrounded by mountains, where ancient homes are built on stacked terraces, creating a unique and evocative landscape. The day concludes with check-in at your hotel in Jabal Akhdar, where you will spend the night immersed in the tranquillity and natural beauty of Oman. Overnight at Jabal Akhdar Hotel. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 4: Jabal Akhdar – Nizwa

After breakfast, you have the full day at your disposal to explore Nizwa, one of the oldest and most significant cities in Oman, considered one of the nation’s historical capitals.

The day can begin with a visit to Nizwa Fort, one of the most imposing fortified structures in the country. Dating back to the 17th century, it is famous for its 35-metre-high cylindrical tower, designed to withstand enemy attacks. Inside, discover reconstructions of traditional weapons, scenes depicting daily life in the past, and a museum dedicated to local history and culture.

Nearby is the renowned Nizwa Souq, one of the most vibrant and authentic markets in Oman. It’s the ideal place to purchase traditional souvenirs, among the stalls, you’ll find Khanjars (traditional Omani daggers), silver jewellery, handwoven carpets, and fragrant incense.

Another interesting stop is the Sultan’s Mosque, one of the first mosques built after Sultan Qaboos came to power. This place of worship symbolises the country’s religious and social revival and is appreciated for its simple yet elegant architecture. Meals are not included, giving you the freedom to discover local flavours at small restaurants around the historic centre. The day ends with your return to the hotel in Nizwa, where you will spend the night. Overnight at Nizwa Hotel. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 5: Nizwa – Misfat Al Abriyeen

After breakfast at the hotel, continue your journey by car to the picturesque village of Misfat Al Abriyeen, along a route that includes some of Oman’s most iconic stops. The first stop is Jabreen Castle, built in the 17th century. The castle stands out for its richly decorated interiors: painted ceilings, intricately carved wooden windows, and rooms adorned with verses from the Quran. It was also an important Islamic academic centre and features a sophisticated natural ventilation system, designed to cool interiors in the region’s hot climate. Continue to Bahla Fort, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is surrounded by a long mudbrick wall extending over 12 km. Inside the fort, a museum offers a glimpse into daily life in the 14th century.

Nearby, visit Bait Al Safah, a well-restored traditional house located in the outskirts of Bahla. The building exemplifies authentic Omani domestic architecture, with rooms furnished in period style and a natural ventilation system known as “Barajeel”, used to cool interiors. If time allows, you may take a short excursion to Jabal Shams, known as the “Mountain of the Sun”. From here, enjoy a breath-taking view of the so-called “Grand Canyon of Oman”, a vast canyon carved into the mountains.

Arrive finally in Misfat Al Abriyeen, a charming village perched on a hillside, characterised by stone and mud houses connected by rock-carved staircases. The landscape is evocative, immersed in a natural and authentic setting. In the late afternoon, check in at a local guesthouse or traditional accommodation. Overnight stay in Misfat Al Abriyeen. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 6: Misfat Al Abriyeen – Wahiba Sands

After breakfast at the hotel, set off by car towards the red desert of Wahiba Sands, an endless sea of dunes stretching as far as the eye can see, with sandy formations rising dozens of meters high. The journey is an adventure immersed in nature and local culture.

Along the way, stop at the Women’s Market in Ibra, an authentic and deeply human place. Here, local women sell fresh produce such as fruit and homemade bread, as well as small handmade crafts. This is a touching and sincere experience, respect and kindness are essential, and we recommend always asking permission before taking photographs.

Continue with a refreshing stop at Wadi Bani Khaled, a natural oasis famous for its blue-green pools, surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation. It’s the perfect spot for a swim or simply relaxing in the shade of the trees, enjoying a moment of peace before entering the desert.

In the late afternoon, arrive at the tented camp in Wahiba Sands. After check-in, immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the desert, witnessing the sunset over the dunes as colours slowly shift before your eyes. Overnight stay at the Camp in Wahiba.

Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 7: Wahiba Sands – Sur

The day begins with breakfast at the camp, surrounded by the silence of the desert as the first rays of sunlight appear. The morning is yours to enjoy at your own pace, you may choose to explore the dunes or simply relax and take in the peace and beauty of the surrounding environment.

Depart for Sur, a peaceful coastal town known for its long maritime tradition and its history as an important trading hub. Upon arrival, visit the Al Ayjah Shipyard, one of the few remaining active sites where the famous dhow boats are built. These traditional wooden vessels, crafted from Indian teak, are assembled without nails, using techniques passed down orally through generations.

Nearby stands the Al Ayjah Lighthouse, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Gulf of Oman. It’s an ideal spot for photography in the late afternoon, when the setting sun creates warm and evocative lighting.

If time and weather permit, visit the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, world-renowned as one of the most important nesting sites for green sea turtles. During the right season, from March to September, you may witness egg incubation or, with a bit of luck, the hatching of baby turtles as they race toward the sea. The day concludes with your transfer to the hotel in Sur, where you can rest after a day full of emotion and discovery. Overnight in Sur. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 8: Sur – Wadi Tiwi – Wadi Shab – Bimmah Sinkhole – Wadi Al Arbaieen

The village of Tiwi is known for its fishing and artisan traditions. Here, you can walk along paths bordering green terraces or simply enjoy the tranquil scenery.

Next, head to Wadi Shab, one of the most iconic Wadis in the entire country. After a short 40-minute walk along the riverbed, you’ll reach hidden pools, waterfalls, and natural caves. Some of these are accessible only by boat, offering a unique and evocative experience.

The journey continues with a visit to Bimmah Sinkhole, a large natural crater surrounded by rocks and vegetation. Its crystal-clear turquoise waters invite a refreshing swim. Access is easy and suitable for all.

The final stop of the day is Wadi Al Arbaieen, a peaceful and rarely visited location. Nestled among palm trees and rocky formations, it’s ideal for those seeking serenity and a direct connection with nature.

The day ends with an overnight stay at a local guesthouse or in a tent within the Wadi Al Arbaieen oasis, offering an intimate and authentic experience in close contact with Omani land and culture. Overnight stay at Wadi Al Arbaieen. Meals included (B/-/-)

Along the way, you can also try kayaking along the riverbed, offering a different perspective on the landscape. In the afternoon, depart for Muscat. Arrival is expected in the evening. Free time for relaxation or evening shopping. Overnight in a Muscat hotel. Meals included (B/-/-)

Day 10: Muscat

It’s the perfect place for a final swim or a moment of tranquillity before departure.

For those seeking adventure, an optional quad biking excursion is available on the Bowsher dunes, offering an exciting ride across soft sandy hills near Muscat.
