Day 4: Sur – Wadi Bani Khaled – Wahiba Desert

This morning begins with a scenic coastal drive, where the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Oman meet the rugged beauty of the Hajjar Mountains. The landscape sets the tone for a day rich in natural wonders and cultural experiences.

First stop: the enchanting Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most beloved Wadis. Known for its year-round flowing water, this oasis is a true gem nestled among the arid desert landscape. Natural pools of turquoise and emerald green water, surrounded by lush palm trees, offer a striking contrast to the rocky terrain. The inviting waters are perfect for a refreshing swim, a serene escape from the desert heat.

From Wadi Bani Khalid, we continue into the heart of the Wahiba Sands, a mesmerizing sea of golden dunes stretching endlessly across the horizon. This is the quintessential Arabian desert experience, where time seems to stand still.

Arrive at the desert camp, your home for the night. Here, you’ll be welcomed with warm Omani hospitality and local cuisine. As the sun sets, the camp comes alive with traditional music and storytelling, offering a glimpse into Bedouin culture. Explore Old Ibra, where retro architecture and traditional mudbrick houses evoke a sense of stepping back in time. This quaint area offers a glimpse into Oman’s past, with its narrow alleyways and historical charm.

From Ibra, continue to the breath-taking Jabal Akhdar, often referred a as the “Green Mountain”. Here, terraced fields flourish with a variety of fruits, flowers, and herbs, creating a vibrant tapestry of colours and scents. From the Saiq Plateau, enjoy sweeping views of the dramatic terraces carved into the mountainside, a tribute to the ingenuity of traditional agricultural practices.
