NIZWA & JABAL AKHDAR “GREEN MOUNTAIN”
(FULL DAY – APPROX. 7-8 HOURS)
Tour description
Start with the old capital of Oman, Nizwa, a popular tourist attraction with its historic buildings and the imposing Nizwa Fort, a vivid reminder of the city’s former status as the political and cultural capital of Oman. The city is also famous for its silver jewellery and handmade Omani daggers (Khanjars), available in the Nizwa Souq.
A stop at Birkat Al Mouz, with its large banana plantation and scenic surroundings, is home to the ancient Falaj irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
From there to Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain) exploring the area with its small villages and terraced fields. With a temperature difference of almost 15 degrees from the base of the mountain, thanks to the milder and cooler climate, many fruits such as apricots, peaches, grapes and pomegranates are grown here. It is also famous for the production of rose water.
Lunch in the local restaurant.
