JABAL SAMHAN
(FULL DAY)
Tour description
We set off in the morning by 4WD to explore the Dhofar Mountains. Drive through the scenic village of Taqah for a photo stop at the village and admire the view from the top of a cliff, known as the Taqah Plateau. Then venture into the ‘evergreen Wadi Darbat’ for a relaxing walk along the Wadi bed, surrounded by herds of camels, goats and cattle. In the Khareef Season (monsoon period), you can witness a natural waterfall of almost 100 m, which spreads its ‘tentacles’ into numerous lakes and lush vegetation.
The next stop is one of the Largest Sink Holes in the world (211 m deep and 150 m in diameter), located in Tawi Attair – also known as the ‘well of the birds’, which frequent this location all year round.
We continue our journey to the Jabal Samhan range to a stunning plateau almost 1,700 m high. This place, known as the ‘Grand Canyon’ of Dhofar, offers a complete view of the east coast on one side and the vast Qara Mountain range on the other.
We will then head from the plateau towards the adjacent Qara Mountain range and pass through mountain villages and landscapes, with numerous photo stops at interesting locations. Drive back to Salalah
